Our Story
Sunmi Kimchi is a Minnesota-based, homemade kimchi company offering a fresh, vegan take on beloved Korean classics. Our kimchi is inspired by time-honored family recipes passed down from my grandmother, blending tradition with our deep love of food and culture.
We craft a variety of small-batch kimchis, including our signature napa cabbage kimchi, crunchy daikon kimchi, and refreshing cucumber kimchi — all vegan and full of flavor. Expanding beyond kimchi, we also offer house-pickled onions and cucumbers, perfect for elevating avocado toasts, sandwiches, burgers, and more.
Our name, Sunmi Kimchi, honors my late mother, Sunmi Kim, who passed away from cancer when I was four years old. Naming the company after her is a heartfelt way to celebrate my Korean heritage and keep her memory alive in my daily life through the food we share with our community.
All our products are homemade under the Minnesota Cottage Food Law and are not subject to state inspection. Our foods are prepared and packaged in a home kitchen that may process common allergens. You can pre-order online for pick-up at local farmers markets or come visit us in person — we’d love to see you!

FoundersThis all began with an airport delay, but the idea to even start a kimchi business would not have been possible without Ryan first suggesting that Hyeonju make homemade kimchi after hearing her complain about the lack of authentic taste with store-bought kimchi.
